Sustainability and Certifications explained

2011 was an exciting year for Mainstream Canada. We achieved three new certifications which show our commitment to continual improvement.

We have updated our "Sustainability" section on our website to explain what all these certifications mean, and explain our focus on sustainable aquaculture.

Mainstream Canada is committed to sustainability. That means our aim is to produce food in a sustainable manner, which means that we operate in such a way that we do not reduce the potential for future food production based on the same natural resources.

Sustainability is a goal that relies on balancing environmental, social and economic benefits and impacts, with a long-term commitment for continual improvement.

Part of our commitment to continual improvement is seeking certifications to hold ourselves to higher standards.

This includes our management systems, certified to ISO standards; our Aboriginal Principles for Sustainable Aquaculture certification; our Certificate of Recognition for safe work practices; and our most recent Best Aquaculture Practices certification.

Please visit our Sustainability page for more information about how we earned these certifications, and what they mean:
