A high quality diet is essential to maintaining the health of farmed salmon. Farmed salmon are fed a pelleted diet specifically formulated to meet their nutritional needs.

Some of the common ingredients in salmon feed are fishmeal, fish oil, wheat, corn gluten, legumes (peas, Soya), and vegetable oils. Salmon by-products are not used to make salmon feed. Essential vitamins, minerals and carotenoids - naturally occurring pigments, which provide salmon with vitamin A and give salmon their pink colour - are also added to the diet. Different types of feed, mainly distinguished by variations in pellet size, fat and protein content, are used according to the different nutrient requirements of each life stage of the fish
