Salmon require clean, oxygen rich water to thrive. Our farmers take many steps to make sure the farm environment is clean, and monitor it regularly.

While freshwater hatcheries are a closed environment where we can largely control the environmental parameters that affect the fish, the marine farms operate in an open environment where we must manage around any unfavourable environmental conditions. For this reason, sites are chosen carefully and the environment is carefully monitored for temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen and harmful plankton levels. Environmental management may include delaying feeding, or actively excluding harmful plankton from the pens using tarps and diffusion systems.
