There are a variety of employment positions at Mainstream Canada in many areas including production, operations, processing, and administration. Learn about some of these exciting opportunities in the following career profiles section.

Fresh Water Production

Our land-based freshwater hatcheries raise salmon through the early stages of their life cycle from egg to smolt. Staff at the hatchery is responsible for the care and feeding of the young fish, along with other duties such as water quality monitoring, size grading, and equipment maintenance. Mainstream Canada hatcheries are located in the communities of Sayward, Port Alberni and Duncan.

Saltwater Production

The marine farm sites raise the salmon from smolt to harvest. Marine site staff responsibilities include the care and feeding of the fish, water quality monitoring, cage and net system maintenance, and the operation of small boats. Our employees travel to work by crew boat, and generally work 8 days on site, followed by 6 days off. Mainstream Canada marine farm sites are located in the protected coastal waterways of Clayoquot Sound, the Broughton Archipelago, and the Campbell River area.

Saltwater Operations

The Physical Operations and maintenance crews are involved primarily with equipment set-up and maintenance at the marine farm sites. The maintenance crew is responsible for the daily maintenance of boats and equipment, while the physical operations crew attends to harvest preparation, net changes, site set-up and take down, plankton mitigation set-up and other site operations. These crews work on similar camp schedules to the marine site crews and operate out of either the Tofino or Port McNeil area.

Processing

Our salmon are processed for market at our own plant in Tofino, and at a local plant in Campbell River. Fish processing staff work on the harvest boats and on the processing and boxing lines at the plant. They are responsible for the delivery and efficient cleaning of the fish and the maintenance of a healthy, high quality product.

Administration

As in any large business, there are many people employed in administrative roles such as Accounts Payable/Receivable, Human Resources, Office Management, Occupational Safety, Data Management, and Purchasing, etc. Our offices and warehouses are located in Campbell River, Port McNeil and Tofino.
